Where do I begin... I love this place! I'm originally from Detroit and was in town from Santa Monica, CA visiting family. Once we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by a wonderful hostess, staff and Jeff (the owner). This place is all about customer service, great food and keeping it as local (in Michigan) as possible - even the music. The service here is the equivalent of a five-star restaurant in Beverly Hills without the pretentiousness. Everything on the menu is fresh and delicious. Even the majority of the beer selection is local and quite tasty. I highly recommend the Mediterranean burger and the coconut shrimp. We will definitely be back when we are in town. Also my parents will make the 30-minute drive now when they go out to dinner. This a unique and refreshing addition to the waterfront and a great place for any occasion. You can tell that Jeff and his staff really care about the business and their customers. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves great food, atmosphere and people!

I really like everything about this place. We have been here 3 times in the past two months. The ambiance is nice, the staff is always professional and friendly, and we always get a visit from one of the managers to make sure our experience is satisfactory. The perch tacos are really good. We love the Rueben egg rolls! I have had the walleye here and the Whitefish wrap, and was pleased each time. The parmesan fries are exceptional. The drink menu features craft cocktails using local favorite ingredients like faygo for a mixer and Valentine Vodka from Ferndale. I love their bloody marys. We took my mother here for her birthday and she is very discerning on where she dines. She was apprehensive about trying a new place. Luckily she was happy with her meal and wants to go back again soon! The only thing I have noticed is the crowd that is attracted here. Older Grosse Pointe types. The Current has the potential to be a real hot spot with the younger crowd with their interesting menu and extensive drink selections. I am in my mid 30s and it would be nice to see some hip customers enjoying themselves here soon! Keep up the good work, I'll be back soon!!
Great selection of local Fish dinner dishes. The group loved all their fish dinners. Our servers was excellent but could use a bus boy/girl.

Food was great! I could eat the garlic mashed potatoes all day long. Burger was great but also had total taco-envy over the dish my dad ordered (and loved), the perch tacos. We will be back!
On a gorgeous Michigan summer day we stopped in for a quick lunch. We both had sandwiches and a local beer / cocktail on the patio. Very nice. The food was good, the drinks were cold and it was a sunny day. What else could you ask for? Service! Yep.. the server was great. Attentive but not a pest, friendly and willing to make a suggestion. Wish I had gotten her name so I could brag about her personally. Good job & I'll be back the next time we're in the area~

I've eaten here twice since it changed from Captain Jack's to its current format -- once on the outdoor patio and once inside due to rain -- and both times I have come across impressed. Most of the food costs more than $10 and The Current seems to be going toward a trendy vibe that mixes in a touch of class. You can eat here in jeans and a polo, and others come in wearing blazers or dresses. They don't seem to have a "type" they are going toward, which is just fine with me. The bar is a good size and features four TV's on each side, if I recall correctly. Great for watching a game and enjoying good food and drinks. Both times I've eaten here I actually ate the whitefish wrap, which is just really delicious. It comes with either Parmesan fries (remind me of crack fries at Hopcat) or chips. It is a real filling meal for any time of day and runs $12. Others I know have eaten salads, whitefish entrees, the pasta, etc. Everyone thought the food was delicious. Appetizers like pub chips taste like an undone potato skins (which is how they are intended) and are served with cheese and covered in balsamic dressing. The place prides itself on Michigan beers and cocktails. You can order a Bourbon cocktail that comes from Three Oaks, or you can drink Norm's Raggedy Ass IPA from Griffin Claw in Birmingham. They also have wine. The drink options are plentiful, to say the least, and fit the "libations" aspect of the restaurant model quite nice. The service is very good, with staff knowing the drinks without a hitch and explaining different menu items quite well. They are also swift. The food comes out pretty fast as well. Definite 'A' for service on both occasions. Even the owner of the place chatted with our table one time and made sure we were enjoying ourselves and that everything was satisfactory. The menu isn't huge, but it's definitely big enough to find new things every time. When you take into account the service, food, patio experience (which is quite relaxing) and space (two floors), it's a great addition to the SCS scene.

Had dinner here last night with a friend. Was really impressed, and glad we made the drive out to SCS. Atmosphere: I'd have to describe the place as cruise ship chic. In a weird hipster way, it's actually pretty fun, but it definitely reminds me of the 1980s. I guess this has something to do with the previous format. Decor aside, the place is open, airy, and inviting. The back deck (upstairs) is fantastic, with comfy seating and great views of the Lake SC. Drinks: The drinks were fantastic. Their drink menu is about 15 cocktails, each of them with local Michigan ingredients. Someone put a lot of time and effort into this -- and the menu -- as everything has a Michigan touch. That's one of my favorite things about the Current! I had a Rock and Rye and a Beer. The cocktail was strong, delicious, and well priced. Nice selection of beers in both a bottle and draft. Food: I ordered the Whitefish Salad wrap, no bacon, with fries. The fries were piping hot and the highlight of my meal -- they're really, really good. The whitefish salad reminded me too much of a tuna salad, which was fine, but I wasn't over the moon about it. I'm sure the bacon would have helped it. My friend's fish tacos were delicious, a little spicy, and plentiful (three gigantic fish tacos with an ample helping of fries). Service: Our server was chipper, attentive, and friendly. Food came quickly, as did the drinks. So, what say me? Overall good food quality, great bar, great views, served up in a friendly and welcoming environment. I'm going to add this to my summer rotation.

LOVE THE VIEW...should be pretty easy to have a good restaurant with that view... We had the coconut shrimp to start- good size, good portion, DELISH We shared the lamb burger and steak. WORST steal I have ever eaten in my life. we sent it back and it came the same way again. the lamb burger was okay- nothing to write home about. overall, wouldn't come back!

Good food. Creative menu. I've only been there late on weekdays, and I've been sad to see it hardly busy at all...but I imagine it's busier earlier and on weekends.
Having tried nearly every restaurant along the water, I have to say this is my new favorite. I'm always a fan of supporting our lovely state, but having come from the service industry this place is well rounded in food, drinks, and service. Our waitress, Ashley, gave great honest opinions about the food which is always appreciative. We will be back to try more things! We had the coconut shrimp, clam chowder, Maurice salad, and greektown burger.

I've been to the Current a few times since the ownership change and you can definitely tell the difference. The food is fresh and the new management is passionate about the place and the local community. The ceviche and fish and chips are amazing, especially with a St. Clair Spritzer. Nicer place to eat for a dinner. Not a overly huge menu. We enjoyed it but it's not a place where you will say "this is the best ___ I've ever had" it's good--they do well with what they serve and nothing very creative. It is NEAR the water but it's more of a dock view.

This was my first time at Current.. This restaurant replaced Captain Jacks and opened just in time for boating season. The inside looks almost the same with a little more upscale vibe. It wasnt very crowded but we went for dinner at a late hour. The menu was smaller but decent, they have a selection of Michigan craft beers and a Detroit themed cocktail menu. I wasn't impressed with the food. I ordered the burger which came with parmesan fries, my sister got the club sandwhich also with the fries. When we got our food both of our sides fries were cold, and my burger was room temperature and unimpressive to say the least. My sister did like her club sandwhich, but for $10 she wasnt sure it was worth it. I'm not sure if I would give this place another try. Maybe after they have been open longer and get in their groove.

First and last visit. Got the ceviche based on another Yelp review - it was the most tasteless, bland, poor excuse for ceviche I've ever tasted. A third of the cup of ceviche was water. Chips were tasteless. Best thing on the plate was the avocado slices. After the poor excuse for ceviche opted not to waste any more money there and moved on. Bloody Mary's were ok.

My wife and I wanted to try something new for dinner and had heard good things about this place. When we first arrived, we were asked if we wanted inside or outside dining. It was a little warm, so we sat inside but still had views of the water. The wait staff was very attentive without being obtrusive. They had a great craft beer and cocktail selection. The menu was mostly fish with salads, burgers, and steaks thrown in. We started with the Reuben egg rolls which was a fun twist on the sandwich. For entrees, I had the walleye and my wife had the trout. I'm not a huge trout fan, but it was done well. The pub fries that came with the dish were amazing! The walleye was very good. The portion was large, the flavor was great, and the Better-made chip crust was really good. Overall, it was a very good experience, and we will definitely go back. I really hope that this place sticks as the past few occupants haven't lasted too long.

A group of four of us had dinner at the Current last Friday; we were very pleased in every way! The service was great, our waitress very attentive. The owner stopped at our table to assure that all was to our liking. The drinks were good with competitive prices. We had Reuben tacos, Great Lakes ceviche, frog legs and coconut shrimp. All were absolutely delicious! The ceviche was tasty, fresh and a different version than one usually comes across. The coconut shrimp were perfect, very fresh, lightly breaded and not too sweet! The prices here are just right. We will definitely be returning very soon!
Great food, drinks and service! We started with the fried asparagus excellent. Had the Michigan salad FANTASTIC! We ordered steaks which were a bit overcooked (ordered rare for medium rare) but had the Gorgonzola bacon and couldn't even tell! Overall fantastic experience.

First time diners last night, had heard positive things about this new and hopefully long lasting restaurant. The atmosphere is quite nice, the bar looked inviting, but we didn't go there, instead right to a tall booth in the first dining area (there's also a porch-like room, looked very nice....no booths there). The views out the big windows are great....we love the marinas in the area. Service was very good, Devin was our server and was knowledgable. One thing I'd mention is that he started clearing dinner plates before one of our party was finished eating. It happened so fast......normally I'd have asked him to hold up. Not a big deal, but the last diner did feel a little rushed. Wine and martinis were tasty. Food was mostly good. The reuben app was outstanding, so so good! It could have easily been my dinner. Sort of rolled and crispy like a taquita....on a bed of sauerkraut drizzled with russian dressing, omg. The 1/3 pound burger was excellent, JUST the right size. The parmesan fries, well, I ate them all and brought half my burger home. The cornish game hen (full, not half) was cooked to juicy tender perfection on the inside and crispy CRISPY perfection on the outside. The potato crusted walleye was a disappointment (so much potential!). The outside coating was NOT crunchy at all....soggy and mushy. Kind of killed the whole thing. I KNOW they can do this better, hope they will. So, mostly, we were very pleased with our first experience. One soggy fish won't keep us from returning. The bar looked way too nice to pass again....will surely visit again.

The atmosphere was enjoyable and things appeared to be clean and trendy. We are happy with the gluten-free menu and that the soups are also GF. Our party actually found the tacos tasty and the spice was nice with the avocado. Our rating is 4 stars because... 1 - We will go back, but it's not a cheap trip. 2- Our server was a bit distracted by her friends that evening. 3- They were out of creme brûlée and I was looking forward to having some. Those things weren't enough to drag down our overall thoughts, but kept it from being perfect.

Came here to sit outside and there were fish flies everywhere. The patio tables were not wiped down at all. So nasty! Ended up moving inside to sit in a booth that had a dead fly on it. Anyway....ordered a MI craft cider beer and fish tacos with fries. My fiancé ordered a corona light with the burger and fries. The fries were awesome! The fish tacos were pretty spicy. Like it overtook every other flavor. The burger was ok. The bun was pretty greasy, and there was way too much house sauce. It was so sloppy. I wouldn't rush back here.

The highlight here is the bar. A decent Michigan beer selection and craft cocktails made with local spirits. The Ceviche was good, the clam chowder was very good, and the entrées we had (perch and a seafood wrap) were pleasant, but fairly uninspired. Our waiter was also one of the bartenders, which was a dumb management decision, because it meant our waiter was fairly inattentive during our visit. I was hoping this new option would become the goto spot on the water, as all of the waterfront restaurants in St. Clair Shores are somewhere between awful and mediocre. The Current is the best place on the waterfront, but there are far better options in town.
